Army Chief: U.S. Can Win in Viet Nam
Gen. Harold K. Johnson, U.S. Army chief of staff, said Friday the Viet Nam war has reached a "new and ominous phase" and the national security of the United States is now "at stake."
"Thus, what appears to be necessary now is for us to maintain, if not increase, the tempo and scope of offensive operations against the Viet Cong," said General Johnson.
The four-star-general spoke to about 400 Legionnaires attending a banquet at the Ralston Friday night as part of the American Legion's 47th annual state convention.
