Some pretty firm predictions that the new infantry division the Army will activate in December will be stationed at Fort Benning -- at least for training and equipping -- were made by authoritative Washington sources Tuesday night.

The Army stated that location of the new division would be announced later.

Elliott Hearing

Scores of Negroes lined up outside the voter registration office in Sumter County again today as a hearing on charges involving police protection got under way before a federal judge.

U.S. District Judge J. Robert Elliott of Columbus heard charges that law enforcement officials failed to provide adequate protection for civil rights demonstrations.

Loyalty Oath

A suit to have Georgia's loyalty oath and security check declared unconstitutional has been filed in U.S. District Court by an organization of Georgia educators.

"Scholarship cannot flourish in an atmosphere of suspicion and distrust," said the petition filed Tuesday. "Teachers and students must always remain free to inquire, to study and to evaluate."
