The United States has received encouraging hints that the Communists may be softening their attitude toward Viet Nam peace talks, an administration source reported today. He cautioned, however, that nothing specific or substantial had emerged and said it was not yet possible to draw any clear conclusions.

The Southeastern Conference football race is shaping up as one of the tightest in history, with six teams given an equal chance of winning the championship. The six contenders, in no special order, are Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Florida, Mississippi and Auburn.

Religion

Thirty Methodist churches of Columbus and Phenix City, in a joint leadership training enterprise, will offer ten special courses for church school workers in the annual Christian Workers Schools to be held during the week of Sept. 20-24.
