Columbus Cottonmouths re-sign Shannon Szabados
Shannon Szabados will be returning to the Columbus Cottonmouths for the upcoming season, the team announced on Wednesday.
For Szabados, this will be her second full season with the team. She also played with the Snakes at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Szabados led Canada to a pair of Olympic Golde Medals in 2008 and 2012.
Last season with the Snakes, Szabados played in 25 games with a goals against average of 3.12 and a save percentage of .907. In her first abbreviated season, she played in two games and allowed seven goals.
"We gave Shannon a chance and she did not disappoint," Snakes caoch Jerome Bechard said. "She is kind, competitive and an important piece to our team. Her success has helped suppress the negative phrase of playing like a girl."
The Snakes have announced the signing of five players. The other four are defensemen Andy Willigar and Kyle Johnson and forwards Craig Simchuk and Patrick McCadden.
The Snakes have also invited forwards Chris Rial and Andrew Kolb to training camp. The team will hosting a free-agent camp Oct. 9-11.
The Snakes open the 2015-16 season at home against Huntsville on Oct. 23.
