Benning To Train
New Copter Units
The Army will train the majority of its new independent helicopter companies at Fort Benning, a Department of the Army spokesman told The Ledger today. Sen. Richard Russell, chairman of the powerful Senate Armed Committee, said the overall buildup of Fort Benning's strength over the next two years would come fairly close to its peacetime peak of last year.

A congressional investigating committee will quiz Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara on why a program the Defense Department outlined earlier this year to protect servicemen from preying loan sharks has not been implemented.

Three in four -- 75 percent -- of American adults believe that many people collect unemployment benefits even though they could find work. As a logical corollary, seven in ten -- 69 percent -- believe that the unemployment laws should be made more strict.
