Springer's Grand Re-Opening Tonight

Columbus first-nighters will step through time's looking glass tonight into the baroque opulence of Victorian theater as the curtain rises on "St. Elmo" at the historic re-opening of the Springer Opera House. After years of idleness and partial decay, the famous local edifice at 10th Street and First Avenue has been restored in keeping with the plush elegance of 1871 when the opera house first opened.

Giant Chinook helicopters swept into a rice paddy landing zone today with soldiers of the U.S. Army's lst Cavalry Division. One flight of 24 smaller Huey helicopters landed, unloaded and left again in exactly 18 seconds. The division was trained at Fort Benning.
