LBJ 'Doing Well' After Surgery
President Johnson's gall bladder operation was performed without complications today, and three hours later he was reported "doing well." However, White House press secretary Bill D. Moyers said Johnson, as would any patient recovering from a gall bladder operation, was "experiencing mild discomfort."
Peace Corps
Ann Murphy, 22, daughter of Russell County Sheriff and Mrs. H. Lamar Murphy, has joined the Peace Corps and is en route to a two-year assignment in Bogota, Colombia.
Soldier's Trial
The Army today denied any unusual procedures in the court-martial of Pfc. Winstel R. Belton this week in which he was convicted of staging a hunger strike to escape duty in Viet Nam, United Press International reported. Also, the Army denied that the 26-year-old soldier was mistreated while he was being confined at the Fort Benning stockade, UPI said.
