Rasmus, Astros look to extend postseason success today at Kansas City
To say Colby Rasmus has been hot during the Houston Astros' postseason run would be an understatement.
The Russell County High alum has hit four home runs in five playoff games. Going back to the last three regular-season games, Rasmus has seven in his last eight games.
He can add to that total Wednesday as the Astros play at Kansas City in Game 5 of the American League Division Series. The winner of Wednesday's game, which is set for 8 p.m,, will advance to the AL Championship Series.
The Astros will be looking to shake off losing Game 4 after having a four-run lead heading into the top of the eighth inning.
"There's no reason for us to hang our heads," Rasmus told the Kansas City Star. "We're ready to get after them."
Rasmus hit a homer to lead the Astros past the New York Yankees in the Wild Card game, so the pressure of a win-or-go-home game is nothing new.
"It's not like we haven't been in this situation already this year," Rasmus told the Kansas City Star. "Playing that Wild Card game against the Yankees, that's as gut-wrenching as you can get."
But Rasmus, who signed a one-year deal with the Astros before the season started, has been doing more than hitting home runs. The left fielder is hitting .500 (7-of-14) with six RBIs and a stolen base. With seven walks, he has on-base percentage of .667.
Rasmus, who played in three postseason games with the Cardinals in his rookie year of 2009, is batting .478 (11-of-23) in eight career postseason games.
He batted just .238 during the regular season, but the 29-year-old hit a career-high 25 home runs and drove in 61 runs.
