Post Payroll Hits $200 Million

A whopping payroll of $200 million has been predicted for Fort Benning in 1966 as part of a projected military and civilian buildup at the huge military installation. Georgia's senior senator, Richard R. Russell, made this forecast Thursday night while speaking to the Columbus Jaycees. It would mean an increase of some $15 to $17 million over recent peak periods.

'Dirty Books'

Results of a recent Gallup survey show that nearly half of the American people (48 per cent) have seen or read books which they think should not be sold, and a clear majority (58 per cent) believes that laws regarding the kind of books that can be sold are not strict enough. Only a scant 4 percent of the public believes such laws are "too strict."

'Bo' to USSR

Rep. Howard Callaway of Pine Mountain is scheduled to leave today for a trip to the Soviet Union. Callaway, who as a member of the State Board of Regents got Georgia colleges to begin teaching special courses about communism three years ago, said he is making the trip to find out more about the Russian Communist system.
