Fund Drive Opens
With more than $26,000 already in hand, the Columbus United Givers drive to raise $718,644 officially opened today. At a kick-off breakfast this morning, 42 Group I volunteers mapped plans for reaching their goal of $469,574 by Nov. 15.
Klan
The Imperial Wizard of the largest Ku Klux Klan refused today to answer questions at a House hearing about an Alabama radio network purportedly set up by his organization. Donald Appell, chief investigator for the House Committee on Un--American Activities, asked Robert Shelton, leader of the United Klans of America, whether the radios were used "to intimidate any Tuscaloosa, Ala. citizens."
Debating Rules
Lt. Gov. James Allen, in his role as presiding officer of the Senate, will likely prove the pivotal figure today in the newest round of the fight over the Wallace succession amendment.
