Murder Is Charged to Parole Official
Walters O. Brooks, 45, member of the State Pardon and Parole Board, said he shot a man to death early today at the door of his apartment. He was jailed on a murder charge. Brooks said he opened fire through the door with a .38 caliber pistol when William E. Tisdale, 41, shouted that he had come there to kill him.
Education
Dr. Thomas Y. Whitley, president of Columbus College, was elected president of the Georgia Association of Junior Colleges at the group's recent annual meeting held at Mercer University in Macon.
Civil Rights
Justice Department attorneys go to federal court today to argue a motion that they be allowed to join a suit against the Lowndes County jury commission. The suit charged the commission with exclusion of Negroes from jury duty in the county where two all-white juries recently acquitted white men charged in the slayings of two white civil rights workers.
