137 Reds Killed

Troops of the U.S. Army's airmobile lst Cavalry Division killed an estimated 137 Communists in two bitter battles at close quarters Monday, an American military spokesman reported today.

Woman Sues City

A $7,500 damage suit was filed against the city of Columbus in Superior Court Monday by Mrs. Eva D. Scott. The petition alleges that on June 18 the plaintiff was walking on the sidewalk in front of 2111 12th Ave. when she tripped and fell. She stated that the sidewalk was 2 1/2 inches above the normal height of the pavement, according to the petition.

Driving

Former Gov. Ernest Vandiver said Monday night he hoped the Georgia General Assembly would supply funds to implement a driver training program in schools by 1967. Vandiver, a prospective candidate for governor next year, said Georgia now has 396,000 youngsters between the ages of 16 and 19 who make up 7 percent of the state's licensed drivers but are involved in 14 percent of auto collissions and 13 percent of the fatal accidents.
