Huge Power Loss Still a Mystery

The nation's vulnerability to a single mishap was laid bare today by history's biggest electric power failure, which brought 12 hours of chaos to millions of persons in New York City, the Northeast and Canada. Power was virtually restored throughout 80,000 square miles which were plunged into darkness and difficulty when the lights went out from Ontario to southern Pennsylvania at 5:28 p.m. EST Tuesday. Thirty million persons were affected.

American casualties in the first week of November were the highest so far in the Viet Nam war -- 70 killed and 237 wounded, a U.S. spokesman reported today.

Bibb Manufacturing Co., which operates 18 textile plants in Georgia, has reported increases in profits, sales and in shipment of goods. A report to stockholders said net profit increased to $5,148,000 over last year's $2,185,000.
