Out Red Troops

The U.S. lst Air Cavalry Division today annihilated the remnants of a North Vietnamese regiment on the slopes of Chu Pung Mountain. Officials said 869 North Vietnamese bodies had been counted on the battlefield and estimated that 1,300 Reds died in the battle. But U.S. casualties were the heaviest of the war, frontline UPI dispatches reported.

L.P. Banks Dies

Former Muscogee County Commission chairman and retired Columbus druggist L.P. Banks died at St. Francis Hospital at 5 a.m. today. He was 85. He served for 18 years and 4 months on the Muscogee County Commission -- for part of that time as chairman of the commission -- and he retired from the county's governing body in 1958.

School Board

The 14 handicapped children now in regular Muscogee County classrooms but in need of special education may soon be shifted to special classes. The Muscogee County Board of Education Monday night authorized Dr. W.H. Shaw, superintendent, to employ teachers for these handicapped children, no matter whether the state participates in their pay.
