Week's Toll 250 GIs in Viet Nam
The battle of the Ia Drang Valley pushed American casualties in Viet Nam last week to 250 killed in action, the U.S. military announced today. It was nearly three times the highest total announced for any previous week. The report today brought the total of U.S. casualties reported in nearly five years of fighting in Viet Nam to about 1,300 dead and about 6,000 wounded.
Volleyball Chief
When it comes to Y.M.C.A. volleyball in the south, Wayne Long will have a hand in it, at least until Dec. 1967. Long, physical director for the Columbus Y.M.C.A., has been appointed Volleyball Commissioner for all Southern area Ys until that time.
Post Strength
Fort Benning will regain by next spring the same strength it had before the lst Cavalry Division departed for Viet Nam, Rep. Howard (Bo) Callaway said here Tuesday. He said Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara said recently that Fort Benning is one of the most important military bases in the country and is here to stay.
