Turkeys Flown To Soldiers
Fighting slacked off throughout most of South Viet Nam today and thousands of American GIs celebrated Thanksgiving with traditional turkey dinners. A U.S. military spokesman said the combat lull gave "more troops than were normally expected" a chance to enjoy the holiday. At his ranch in Texas, President Johnson praised American servicemen for their efforts in Viet Nam.
Local GIs Killed
The Defense Department said Wednesday five Columbus servicemen were among 27 killed in action in Viet Nam: Army Capt. Raymond Celeste, 2480 Rice St.; Army S-Sgt. Richard T. Young, 124 Torch Hill Road; Army S-Sgt. Martin Knapp, 3033 Baker Court; Army Sgt. Gerald B. Evans 3939 Trask Drive; and Army S-Sgt. Fred D. Witchet, Vista Estates.
