Klansmen's Case Is Sent to Jury

An all-white jury today began considering conspiracy charges against three Ku Klux Klansmen indicted in the night rider slaying of a woman civil rights worker. Although the charges stem from the murder of Mrs. Viola Liuzzo, a Detroit mother of five, Judge Frank M. Johnson told the jury it was not necessary for the prosecution to prove the defendants killed her.

Whisky Tax

An increase of more than $300,000 in city revenues is expected through an 80-cents-a-gallon tax on wine and whisky, approved today by Columbus City Commission.

Latin Officers

Six officers from El Salvador arrived at Muscogee County Airport Wednesday for a four-day visit to Fort Benning. Senior officer of the group is Col. Jose Luis Escobar Ezeta, deputy chief of staff, Armed Forces of El Savador.
