War Now Costs $16M Each Day

The cost of fighting the war in Viet Nam appears to be running at the rate of about $6 billion a year--or about 16.5 million daily. With the continued escalation of the war, this cost is likely to escalate, too.

Peace Elusive

President Johnson says he will exhaust every peace effort "before other hard steps are taken" in Viet Nam. But while the British call again for negotiations, Moscow and Hanoi blame the United States for expanding the war.

Docks

A committee from the Georgia House of Representatives will be here Saturday to tour the Columbus State Docks. The 11-member State Ports Committee has as its secretary Muscogee Rep. Jack Brinkley, a Columbus attorney. The committee chairman is Chatham County Rep. Willis J. (Dick) Richardson of Savannah.
