Pay Hikes Posed For Local Judges
Judges and other officers of the courts in Muscogee County may be in line for substantial increases in pay. Muscogee County Commission today agreed to make a recommendation to the local legislative delegation no later than next week on a proposal by the Columbus Lawyers Club that the salaries of certain court officials be increased.
Death Ruling
Police are investigating the death of a Columbus woman who apparently was given a fatal dose of ammonia when she passed out while working at a mill here.
Highway Repairs
Major repairs to a portion of U.S. 431 south of Phenix City have been completed, officials reported today. The highway has taken a total of 26 lives in the past five years -- mostly during wet weather.
