A predicted 1,286 run-down homes in northern Columbus had better have some work done on them this year -- or else. That's the word being passed around now at the city building inspection department, where the staff is at work to enforce Columbus' somewhat new minimum housing standards.
Klan
A Louisiana school official, identified as a member of the Ku Klux Klan, invoked the Fifth Amendment today when called before a congressional committee. Russell Magee, 41, of Franklinton, La., is now an official of the Franklinton school system and previously was a vice principal and a high school basketball coach.
Business
The big legal guns of the integration drive will be aimed in 1986 at the Southern textile industry, and finance, it was disclosed today. Jack Greenberg, director-counsel of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Legal Defense Fund, said a large number of suits will be filed during the year to obtain compliance with the civil rights law.
