County Rejects 1-Council Setup

A move by Columbus City Commission to set up one commission to govern a metropolitan county ran headlong into opposition from Muscogee County Commission today. Four county commissioners said, in effect, that they aren't for consolidation of the two commissions. They said it in different ways, but it all added up to opposition to one government at this time.

Gov. Carl Sanders has included $120,000 for expansion of the State Farmers Market in Columbus in his supplemental appropriations bill which was presented to the General Assembly today.

Sanders Upbeat

Gov. Carl Sanders today painted a picture of "our beautiful Georgia" as a young and vibrant state with her best years ahead, bustling with opportunity and reaping an abundant harvest for its 4,400,000 citizens. "The state of our state is truly magnificent," Sanders told a joint session of the General Assembly in his annual message.
