Army to Boost Ground Forces
The vast bulk of the 113,000 additional fighting men sought by the Johnson administration will be used to strengthen Army and Marine ground forces, it was learned today. American ground forces are shouldering an ever-greater combat load in the Viet Nam war.
Bond's Seat
Gov. Carl E. Sanders called a special election for Feb. 23 today for Julian Bond's seat in the Georgia House. The election date falls five days after the legislature adjourns.
PC Police
The first Negro policeman in Phenix City history were hired by the city commission this morning. Hired were Ocene Lawrence and Negroes John Thomas Allen and Jimmy Lee Long.
