Fall Vote Seen On Merger Plan

Muscogee County voters apparently will have their say next November on whether to consolidate city and county commissions. Last week, the Muscogee House delegation announced that it would seek the constitutional amendment that would authorize legislation to consolidate the two commissions.

Alabama's Democratic loyalists, warned to accept "changing times," Saturday scored a stunning, historic victory by striking the white supremacy theme from their party emblem. The unprecedented move was seen as a setback for Gov. George C. Wallace, who reportedly was in favor of retaining the emblem intact.
