Jones' Mortgage Bill Passes House

The Senate Committee on Industry and Labor today voted without dissent to approve Muscogee Rep. Milton Jones' bill to end "abusive" charges on second mortgage loans.

Bond to Appeal

Rep.-elect Julian Bond will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a decision upholding the Georgia House's refusal to seat him because of statements held to be "at war with the national policy."

A federal court ruled Thursday that the House action was legal and rational on the basis of Bond's voicing sympathy with men unwilling to respond to a military draft.

Diet Peanut

For those who can't stop at one, a Georgia company has come up with a new process to squeeze calories out of peanuts.

The first low-calorie peanuts to be offered nationally were introduced today by the Tom Huston Peanut Co. of Columbus.
