Callaway Awaits Drive Response

Response to nominating petitions which will be circulated shortly will be "a major factor" in Third District Congressman Howard (Bo) Callaway's decision whether to run for governor, the state Republican Party Chairman said today. Rep. Paul G. Jones of Macon said also he does not believe there will be a Republican gubernatorial candidate if Callaway decides against making the race.

Huston Merger

Columbus' homegrown Tom Huston Peanut Company probably will be sold to General Mills in a stock exchange deal reflecting a value of some $90 million for the local firm. Terms call for an exchange of Tom Huston shares on a share-for-share basis into a new General Mills common stock on a ratio of one to .85.

Union Pickets

Pickets today paraded in a light rain at the entrance to the $45 million Alabama Kraft Co. containerboard mill now under construction here. Construction work appeared to have come to a temporary halt. About 15 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 779 claimed they were "locked out" from their jobs at the mill.
