Flowers Enters Bid For Governor's Post
Alabama Atty. Gen. Richmond Flowers, a frequent critic of the segregationist policies of Gov. George C. Wallace, today announced his candidacy for governor.
Flowers, a self-styled moderate, has opposed Wallace's defiance of federal authority.
First Lady's Visit
Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson raised a gentle plea against racial prejudice today in a speech at the University of Alabama, where federal troops were marshaled in 1963 to enroll two Negroes.
"The promise of equality first made in our Constitution is ours to keep," said the Texas-born First Lady.
Education
A speedup in delivery of state textbooks to Russell County schools is expected with employment of a new supervisor for the county school system.
