4 Die in Plane

Crash Near Here

Four Huntsville, Ala., men died near here early this morning when their single-engine aircraft gave out of fuel and smashed into the ground off River Road north of Columbus. The four, all residents of Huntsville, were returning from a stock car race in Daytona, Fla.

Levy Increase

Muscogee County has increased its tax assessment ratio from 30 to 40 per cent -- but this does not mean automatically there will be a tax increase this year. Any change either in property evaluations or in the assessment ratio can be adjusted upward or downward by the millage rate.

Fort Benning

Light equal to 17 brightnesses of a full moon will shine upon the Fort Benning reservation Thursday night. A U.S. Air Force plane carrying 28 searchlights, generating a total of six million candlepower, will fly over the military post about 9 p.m. Thursday demonstrating the illuminating technique.
