Harris County deputy released from hospital

The Harris County sheriff’s deputy who was shot during a Saturday afternoon traffic stop on Interstate 185 was released from the hospital on Tuesday, according to a post on Facebook.

Public safety agencies from across the region came together Tuesday afternoon to escort Jamie White home. White had been hospitalized since he was shot in the left eye after he stopped a car for speeding on I-185.

Joe Garrett, 24, of Phenix City was arrested in connection with the shooting after turning himself into police in Phenix City. He was denied bond during a preliminary hearing on Monday.

A woman, Lytishia Horace, also has been arrested in the case. Her bond was set at $10,000 for two felonies and $1,000 for one misdemeanor. Horace was not with Garrett at the time of the shooting, Sheriff Mike Jolley said, but she received text messages from him and helped him hide when he returned to Alabama.

Jolley said Tuesday that deputies are still looking for two women who were in the car with Garrett at the time of the shooting. No other details on the suspects have been released.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help White during his recovery. Donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/273rymc.
