Shots fired at Peachtree Mall

Columbus police are investigating a shooting incident in the parking lot of Peachtree Mall early Sunday afternoon.

According to police, nobody was seriously injured in the incident at the shopping center on Manchester Expressway.

Police got the call about a shooting around 1:36 p.m.

Officials say a mall customer found someone sitting in his car and confronted the man.

The man, who police say had broken into the vehicle, tried to flee and the car owner attempted to stop him.

Shots were fired by the alleged thief.

A bystander was possibly hit by a shot that richocheted.

It is the second such shooting incident in the last couple of months.

On March 26, 24-year-old Anthony Meredith was shot to death at the mall.

Arrested for the murder was Xzavaien Jones, who pleaded not guilty in Columbus Recorder’s Court. Police say that Jones was seeking revenge for the death of a fellow Crip gang member.

In that incident, police said they found Meredith’s body near the southwest entrance of the shopping center.
