1. State declares Muscogee County special-education center unsafe, unhealthy: The Muscogee County School Board conducted a called meeting Monday to vote on Superintendent David Lewis’ recommendation to move the special education program from Woodall Center to J.D. Davis Elementary School after it was declared unsafe and unhealty. Woodall has housed one of 24 programs in the Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support, which serves students with severe emotional or behavioral disorders.

2. Former Auburn running back Jovon Robinson dismissal was result of numerous summer discipline issues according to former coach: Former Auburn running back Jovon Robinson’s dismissal from the program was the culmination of numerous discipline issues through the team’s summer workouts. Robinson’s former Georgia Military College coach Bert Williams said the situation with Robinson goes back to late May or early June.

3. Brother, sister sentenced in Super 8 Motel homicide: A man went to prison and his sister walked free Thursday as a judge sentenced two of four suspects in the 2014 fatal shooting of Troy Saunders at Columbus’ Warm Springs Road Super 8 Motel. The four were accused of fatally shooting Saunders while trying to rob his companion Joseph “Joey” Wilkes of marijuana during a Jan. 24, 2014, meeting that Niesha Jones arranged online.

4. Sonya Eddings pleads not guilty in federal court to stealing $23 million: The former wife of a prominent Columbus real estate closing attorney pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon in federal court for her role in a scheme to steal more than $2.3 million from her then-husband’s legal trust account. Sonya Eddings, 51, freely admitted her role in years of fraud that was discovered in October 2012. She will be sentenced in November and faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

5. Whitewater Express river guides rescue man who falls into Chattahoochee: An elderly man had to be rescued from the Chattahoochee River on July 30 after falling into the water just below the last big wave on the whitewater course, according to multiple sources. The incident on the island just below the Eagle & Phenix Mill residential complex happened as the last rafting trip of the day was preparing to enter the final rapids, said Whitewater Express owner Dan Gilbert. The man, who was not wearing a flotation device, was not one of the outfitter’s customers, Gilbert said.
