Tako offers extensive menu items

Jim Zhong opened Tako Japanese & Chinese Restaurant in the Whitesville Crossing Shopping Center (on the corner of Whitesville and Double Churches roads) two years ago.

He enjoys a steady take-out business, but hopes to attract diners to sit and enjoy their dinners in the restaurant.

It’s a very pleasant room, with fun bamboo furniture and shades on the windows. Service is quick and the server is very pleasant.

The menu is extensive, since Zhong has both Chinese and Japanese dishes.

It’s open six days a week (closed on Tuesday). Lunch is served between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays and noon-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dinner is served 5-10 p.m.

You can’t go wrong with the lunch specials.

The lunch specials are deals, unless you go for the Japanese bento boxes, which run $13.95-$14.95. The bento boxes include the entree (chicken, beef, shrimp or salmon teriyaki; chicken yakitori and chicken katsu), steamed rice, California roll, vegetable tempura, salad and miso soup.

The Japanese lunch specials run from $5.95-$8.95, and include teriyaki chicken, beef, shrimp, salmon or vegetables; vegetable, shrimp or chicken tempura; chicken katsu; unadon (eel over rice) and chicken or been yakitori. These are all served with salad and steamed or fried rice.

The Chinese lunch specials are $4.95-$5.50 and include chicken or beef with broccoli, General Tso’s chicken, Kung Pao chicken or beef, Mongolian chicken or beef, orange chicken, six chicken wings and beef with bamboo shoots. They are all served with steamed or fried rice and an egg roll.

Dinner gets to be interesting because there are two full pages of entrees.

There’s also sushi ($3-$8.95).
