Time Warner Cable is rolling out a trial plan in Greensboro and several other cities to charge Internet customers by how much data they use.
Similar to cell phone customers who get billed for using more minutes than what their plan allows, Time Warner is looking to charge for each gigabyte people use over their plan limit, rather than have unlimited usage. Until now, there have been no limits on Internet access.
The plan already has attracted a lot of criticism from people who say Time Warner is simply trying to jack up prices and stifle development of companies that provide TV and other entertainment content on the Web.
