Meanwhile, at stately Wayne Manor …
Have you seen the weather this weekend? Gloomy, rainy, depressingly void of any light, heat or warmth. But that’s alright, kids, because your pals at Weekend Picks are here to shine the dazzling array of disco love on an otherwise gray couple days off.
Turn up the volume and let’s go:
First, put on your one clean collared shirt and head to the Gala Art Exhibit and Auction at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cunningham Center at CSU, 3100 Gentian Blvd. It’s $10 to get in, but the scene is well worth it. If you’ve never been to a live art auction, you must check this out. Last year, they had an original Dali. Yeah, and this is in Columbus, Ga. Take advantage of it, and get some of the wine they’ll be serving, too.

For my next trick, you can choose between Friday, Saturday or Sunday to see “A Piece of my Heart,” at the CSU Theatre on the Park in downtown Columbus. It’s at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Bring $15. And remember, there are adult themes involved in the play. No snickering.
Finally, spare some time Saturday night and hit Flip Flops, 1111 Broadway. The drinks are hip and there’s always a good crowd.
Valentines are overrated
Abandon all dreams of finding a last-minute Valentine and dance your fears away Saturday night at Eighty-Five, 900 Front Ave. The hot spot hosts a performance by the guys from Classic Addict. A $5 cover starts at 9 p.m.
While you're downtown, enjoy a little altruism during Saturday's Haiti Relief Concert at The Roadhouse, 1047 Broadway. Your $5 cover benefits the Red Cross. Live entertainment begins at 9 p.m. and features acts like Stereomonster, The Unsung and Jason Chin.
Finally, wrap up the weekend by watching Super Bowl XLIV and savoring your favorite chili. Action starts around 6:30 p.m. on CBS. Get party-planning tips on our Celebration Survival Guide blog.
