A month of outdoor concerts on Broadway kicks off Friday with a performance by local party act Big Woody and the Splinters.
Most Friday shows in the Uptown Concert Series will be held on the 1100 block of Broadway. The May 21 show will be held on the 1000 block of Broadway to accommodate the Aflac Outdoor Games.
All concerts are free.
The musical lineup includes local favorites like Peggy Jenkins and the Bizness, as well as DNR (Do Not Resuscitate), a band composed of local medical professionals.
This season, Scott’s Ride for Miracles is a major component of the concerts.
Scott Ressmeyer, co-owner of Country’s Barbecue, will repeat his cross-country motorcycle ride to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network at The Medical Center.
This time, a group of “Miracle Riders” — including Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley — will accompany Ressmeyer.
Ressmeyer took the trip last year to celebrate his 50th birthday.
He originally thought it would be a one-time event, but changed his mind after Jolley approached him about a second trek.
Fans will meet Ressmeyer and his group at Friday’s show. They’ll depart May 7. The last concert in the series (May 28) will celebrate their return.
