Weekend picks: Club can't handle us

Thinking that it’s too hot to move? The metal weight of gravity pulling on your bones got you down?

Nothing to do for it except follow these three simple ideas for how to turn your weekend into a weekstart. Let’s go:

SoHo: It’s been months since we’ve graced the darkened halls of this bar at 5751 Milgen Road. Be sure to stop by around 10 p.m. Friday to hear Stereomonster play. The cover is $5.

Pasaquan: Did you know the ravings of a man with spooky visions was actualized into a site that’s now on the historic register of places? No foolin’. Check out Pasaquan, the creation of St. EOM, this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site is located near Buena Vista. Click here for directions, and prepare to expand your mind, man. Cost is $5.

Start your 5K training: You keep telling yourself that this will be the year you do the Country’s Midnight Run, but you never follow through. Make sure this is the year you do. Start running around the southern portion of Lakebottom Park early this Sunday. Just do it once this weekend and run a little more each Sunday. In three weeks, you’ll be Midnight Run material.

Club can't handle me

Flo Rida's new single is the story of my life. That's why I'm hitting the town this weekend. Wanna party? If so, try these nightlife options:

Block party: Bounce between downtown Columbus bars during the First Friday Block Party, when one $10 cover gets you into the majority of Broadway hot spots. Participating venues include draws like drink specials and live entertainment.

Phenix City concert: Visit the Phenix City Amphitheater Saturday night for a Last Blast Beach Party that includes songs made famous by The Tams and The Drifters. Gates open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Cost is $10, free for guests 12 and younger. Lawn chairs are allowed, coolers are not. Beer, wine, soda and snacks are sold.

Little Black Dress Night: Cruise over to Belloo's, 900 Front Ave. in Columbus, for a martini after the Phenix City Show. This weekend you'll hear music by Claiborne & Friends with Rick Champion. Cover is $5. Wear a black dress and you'll get two gift certificates for the bar. The promotion is offered every Friday and Saturday.
