Weekend picks include concerts, food and TV premieres

All dressed up with no place to go? It won't happen if you try these weekend offerings for Sept. 24-26.

MUSIC: Kick off the weekend by hitting Friday's free outdoor concert on Broadway. The Relics perform 7-10 p.m.

Sunday, cruise over to The Loft for a 6:30 p.m. performance by The Gourds. These guys are responsible for that awesome bluegrass "Gin and Juice" cover that's often mistakenly credited to Phish. Cover is $10.

FOOD: Saturday is your last day to take advantage of the Exchange Club's famous foot-long hot dog sale. It's 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Shrine Club, 3202 Edgewood Road.

FAMILY: Bring your family to Insectival, a Saturday event at Oxbow Meadows, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. You'll explore bugs, make crafts, eat crickets and more. It's 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, cricket spitting contest is noon-2 p.m.

Also, the Greater Columbus Fair runs through Sunday at the Columbus Civic Center. Admission is $2-$7. There's a "Survivor" casting call 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

TV: Sunday is a big night for fall TV premieres. We recommend "The Amazing Race" at 8:30 p.m. on CBS, as well as "Desperate Housewives" at 9 p.m. on ABC. What's up with those babies that were switched at birth?

THEATER: Check out "The Full Monty" at the Springer Opera House, plus "The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at CSU's Theatre on the Park.

FUNDRAISER: Visit Picasso Pizza, 1020 Broadway, Sunday night and support a bartender who's walking 60 miles to raise money for breast cancer awareness. The event is 6-11 p.m.
