Shanty Shack’s Bikefest revs up altruism

Forget leather and fancy boots. Maybe the most important motorcycle accessory is a little compassion.

Motorcycle enthusiasts on Saturday will find another event rooted in altruism. The Shanty Shack’s Bikefest benefits Capt. Mike Russell of Columbus Fire & Emergency Medical Services.

Russell is dealing with his second lung cancer diagnosis. Proceeds from Saturday’s Bikefest will go toward his medical expenses.

The third annual event includes music, food, raffles and more. Action starts at noon. Music fans can look forward to performances by Ratchit and Haywire at the Warm Springs Road hot spot.

Barbecue plates will be sold for $6. Also, there will be a best all-around bike show with a $100 cash prize.

Bikefest’s outdoor events are open to all ages, though only guests 21 and older will be allowed inside the bar.
