‘Classic Couture’ fashion show helps kick off Fountain City Classic events

Football gets fashionable this weekend.

Don’t worry, nobody’s adding designer fabric to athletes’ helmets.

Instead, a Fountain City Classic “Classic Couture” Fashion Show helps kick off a week of activities leading to the football game between Fort Valley State University and Albany State University.

Saturday’s all-ages fashion event will take place at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center.

“The point of the show is to intermingle entertainment with fashion,” fashion show co-chair Debra Porch said.

About 30 runway models will showcase items from a list of retailers that includes local boutiques.

Don’t be surprised if you see some styles dominated by blue and gold, the football game’s signature colors. The show will span varying levels of the fashion spectrum.

“There will be some couture items that are strictly for the runway,” Porch said. But you’ll also see items suitable to wear at Fountain City Classic events, she added.

This is the first “Classic Couture” event. Organizers say it could become an annual component of the Fountain City Classic.

The football game will take place Saturday, Nov. 6, at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium. Visit ledger-enquirer.com/todo for a schedule of Fountain City Classic events.
