How does Columbus measure up for the unmarried? These 3 GA cities ranked best for singles
Given that 46% of the U.S. adult population is unmarried and that dating has become increasingly more complicated, it seems like single folks looking for connection might need a little help, even if it is of the geographic variety.
Single Georgians, if you’re looking for love, you may need to pack those bags and head to one of the three cities in the state that made the cut:
Georgia cities ranked 1, 112 and 150 on list of U.S. cities that are good for singles.
In order to determine the best cities for singles, researchers at WalletHub evaluated the cities in three main categories: economics, elements of fun and recreation and dating opportunities. According to analyst Chip Lupo, the best cities for singles have large, gender-balanced single populations, a wide variety of activities and reasonable prices for dating experiences.
#150: Columbus
The overall ranking of 150 indicates a fairly low rate for singles, generally. This implies that Columbus may not offer the most favorable conditions for dating in the larger sense.
Economics — 46. This is not great for Columbus. It accounts for high costs for dating activities like restaurants, movies, beauty salon services and fitness club fees. Couple this with lower median annual income or higher cost of living, and Columbus singles don’t have it great.
Fun and recreation — 156. This indicates a relatively low ranking, suggesting Columbus may not have the best or most attractions for dating. There are less restaurants, coffee and tea shops, parks, nightlife options or shopping than what is ideal for single residents. This also indicates it may have poor walkability, lower safety and less favorable weather.
Dating opportunities — 148. This reflects a lower singles population in Columbus with poor gender balance. There are limited online and mobile dating options and lower Google search traffic for dating-related terms, like “Tinder.”
#1: Atlanta
Atlanta, on the other hand, scored the best across the board. Ranked as number one, excels in all categories, particularly with over 69% of its population being single. It also sports a vibrant nightlife and recreational scene.
Economics — 140. This means the city has more appropriately priced dating-related experiences for the median income of the city. This includes restaurants and meal costs, beer and wine prices and dating-related expenses.
Fun and recreation — 2. Using this criteria, Atlanta offers a lot of opportunities for singles to have fun. It contains a high number of cultural attractions, many restaurants and eateries, and a variety of options for social clubs and fitness activities.
Dating opportunities — 15. Atlanta has a strong showing in areas such as single residents and online dating choices. Relatedly, it also has one of the country’s highest share of households with high-speed broadband internet and smartphones.
#112: Augusta
Augusta scored higher than Columbus, but was still decidedly in the middle an overall ranking of 112. It has more female residents than men with the median age of 36, which seems like it could be okay for singles, yet 47% of the population remains unmarried.
Economics — 96. Augusta’s economic conditions are not really favorable for singles due to the lower median income and higher unemployment rates.
Fun and recreation — 176. This score is very low in the rankings, most likely due to the lack of an affordable social scene.
Dating opportunities — 73. Scoring much better than Columbus, but far worse than Atlanta, Augusta seems like it lies in middle ground for the single residents.
Whether you’re looking to move or just looking for love, it looks like Georgia is the place to be. Even though Columbus and Augusta are lower on the list, at least they made the list.
Good luck out there, single folks.
