YouTube TV Launches Customizable Multiview Feature for Enhanced Viewing Experience

Back in January, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan published a blog post detailing the company's planned initiatives in 2026. Among them was the launch of a fully customizable multiview feature, something YouTube TV had been promising customers for a while.

Now, three months later, customizable multiview is being rolled out on a limited basis, with a full public integration still planned for the future.

How does this new feature work?

Unlike the current iteration of multiview, which has limited viewing options to preset bundles, this fully customizable format allows subscribers to access any channel when building a screen capable of showing up to four things at once.

"Early testers are already calling it a game-changer, especially for sports fans who can now pair local regional sports networks with national broadcasts that were previously off-limits in multiview mode," writes Luke Bouma of Cord Cutters news.

Users seem quite happy

This expanded multiview is being introduced on an account-specific basis on television and mobile devices. On Reddit, YouTube TV subscribers with early access have been expressing their excitement.

"I see it for YouTube TV. I can't wait for them to bring it to the YouTube app," one person wrote. "They did it with Coachella but you couldn't pick your view. Half the channels weren't playing anything because of set times."

"It started for us yesterday. Now we can include RSN (regional sports networks) In Philly," another Redditor wrote.

"Now that we have this, I'd like to start a petition for 1 big/3 little screen multi view. Similar to what MLB.tv has. There's always room for improvement," a third person commented.

"Finally. For the people saying it wasn't technically feasible. This is Google we are taking about," said a fourth Redditor.

What else does YouTube TV have planned?

In addition to customizable multiview, YouTube TV is also launching genre-specific channel packages based on personal preferences.

Options include a Sports plan, Sports + News plan and Sports + News + Entertainment plan, among other examples.

"TV should be easy, giving viewers greater control over what they want to watch. Our goal is to let you tailor your subscription with more options," YouTube TV said back in December. "Whether you stick with our main YouTube TV plan with 100+ channels, focus on sports, combine sports and news, or select a plan centered on family and entertainment content, subscribers will be able to easily choose the plan that works best for them."
