Netflix Quietly Sets Return Date for Beloved Western Series

Netflix's breakout Western series Ransom Canyon is back for a second season this summer, with a revamped cast and a new storyline, to (cowboy) boot.

Back in April, it was confirmed that the Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly-led romance had wrapped production on Season 2, but no release date had been announced at the time. Now, the series is officially returning on July 23, to the joy of countless fans.

As confirmed by Variety, Ransom Canyon Season 2 will consist of 8 episodes - slightly down from its 10-episode count for Season 1, but a common trend among shows on the streaming service as of late.

The entertainment outlet also provided the official logline for Season 2, stating that the new episodes "picks up six months after the events of the first season, with rancher Staten Kirkland (Duhamel) fighting to reclaim his legacy after being unseated as trustee of his family's Double K Ranch, while musician Quinn O'Grady (Kelly) must decide if her heart truly belongs in the small town she once tried to outrun or in the fast-paced world of New York City. Are they star-crossed lovers, or fated to be together?"

As previously reported, actors Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who played father and son Davis and Reid Collins, exited the series after Season 1 and will not be returning for the new episodes. However, there are plenty of other exciting new additions to the show, including Academy Award nominee Patricia Clarkson, Steve Howey, Ben Robson, and Heidi Engerman.

Ransom Canyon season 1 premiered in April 2025, making the Season 2 premiere date of Summer 2026 surprisingly advanced for the notoriously long production of Netflix shows. While the series failed to win over critics, sitting at 45% on Rotten Tomatoes, the western series racked up a respectable 16.6 million cumulative views in its first two weeks of release, spending multiple subsequent weeks in the streamer's Global Top 10 list, according to data collected by Deadline.
