What vegetables can rabbits eat?

Despite popular beliefs about rabbits, their diets shouldn't only just include vegetables. According to The Rabbit Foundation, "Fresh vegetables should make up approximately 10% of your adult rabbit's diet."

The organization explains that while vegetables are a good part of their regular diet, "Hay should consist of 80% of your rabbit's diet" when you're feeding them. They can also eat fruits, but that should be considered a small treat once in a while.

"For adult rabbits, a good rule of thumb is approximately one cup of packed greens for every two pounds of rabbit," they add, also noting that rabbits are usually good at self-regulating how much they eat in a day.

While eating more vegetables than recommended may not be harmful for a rabbit, it can cause runny stools and other symptoms of stomach upset, so it's important to monitor the rabbit when they're eating.

Some of the fresh veggies rabbits can enjoy include spinach. broccoli, sprouts, bell peppers, cucumber, and pumpkin. On the other hand, pet parents should avoid feeding their pets bamboo shoots, corn, garlic, onions, and potatoes.
