‘Hansel and Gretel' cottage could be yours for over $1 million
By Isobel Williams
A "Hansel and Gretel"-style cottage has hit the market for $1,031,250 - witch not included.
The three-bedroom Grade II-listed home in Kingsbury, northwest London, was built in 1925.
A thatched cottage, it has two fireplaces, a dining room, a garden, and exposed timber beams.
There is also a separate one-bedroom flat within the premises which was converted from a former recording studio.
Sellers Unique Property Company have put the home up for sale for $1,031,250 and describe it as having a fairytale feel.
They say the use of green elm wood and local thatch meant the house could be completed by architect Ernest Trobridge in under eight weeks - and it weighs around a fifth of a brick-built house.
The listing reads: "Constructed during the interwar period in 1925 when building materials were at a premium and in short supply, Trobridge was ahead of his time.
"Entering into a Hansel & Gretel world, this 3-bedroom thatched home is packed full of nostalgic features that arouse your inner child & has a self-contained former recording studio to the lower ground level, currently utilised as a separate one bedroom flat."
Unique Property Company also claim there are rumors that Mike + The Mechanics wrote and produced the 1980s hit "The Living Years" on the street, Buck Lane.
