Anthony Head Cause of Death: How Did the 'Ted Lasso' Star Die?

Ted Lasso and Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Anthony Head is dead at the age of 72.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father," the British actor's family told BBC. How did he die? What was Head's cause of death? It turns out that he died from a respiratory ailment that has struck other top stars.

Anthony Head's Cause of Death Was Complications From Pneumonia

Head died of complications from pneumonia. "He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," his daughters Emily and Daisy told BBC.

"It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many," they told the outlet on June 5.

They also told BBC that they knew "how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the show he was in," adding that he "loved his job very much" and "always considered himself incredibly lucky."

Head recently lost his partner and the mother of his daughters, Sarah Fisher, at age 61. Her cause of death was not clear. On December 29, her family wrote on Facebook, "We are so sorry to have to share the news that our extraordinary, kind and talented mother, Sarah, passed away recently. It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning."

They added, "No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left. We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn't be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind. We only wish she'd had more time to share her knowledge and brilliance with us, and the world. Our grief knows no bounds, nor did the reaches of her incredibly unique and irreplaceable spirit."

A String of Celebrities, From Diane Keaton to Kyle Busch, Has Died From Pneumonia

According to The New York Post,Head is one of a string of celebrities who have died from pneumonia.

Actress Diane Keaton, actor Val Kilmer, and, most recently, race car driver Kyle Busch all died from complications with pneumonia, which hospitalizes 1 million people per year in the U.S., The Post reported.

According to the American Lung Association, "Bacterial pneumonia can occur on its own or develop after you've had a virus like the cold, flu, COVID-19 or RSV. Bacterial pneumonia often affects just one part, or lobe, of a lung. When this happens, the condition is called lobar pneumonia."

The ALA added, "Those at greatest risk for bacterial pneumonia include people recovering from surgery, people with chronic respiratory disease or viral infection, children younger than 5, older adults and people who have weakened immune systems."

But pneumonia has several causes. "Pneumonia is typically classified by where you got it and what germ (bacteria, virus, or fungi) caused it," the American Lung Association adds.

"Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. A variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia," the Mayo Clinic explains.

"Pneumonia can range in seriousness from mild to life-threatening. It is most serious for infants and young children, people older than age 65, and people with health problems or weakened immune systems."
