Norwegian Cruise Line cancels series of cruises on Prima-class ship

Norwegian Cruise Line is backtracking on a plan to homeport two Prima-class cruise ships in San Juan, Puerto Rico to expand Southern Caribbean cruise options across some of the line's newest ships.

In late 2025, Norwegian released a fresh batch of winter sailings offering weeklong cruises from San Juan to the Southern Caribbean on two Prima-class sister ships, with each ship offering a distinct itinerary. But it turns out that only one of the ships will be able to keep the San Juan deployment.

The cruise line just notified travelers who had eagerly booked the new sailings on one of the two ships that their cruise has unfortunately been canceled. Instead of sailing from San Juan to the sought-after islands of Aruba and Curaçao, the ship is being redeployed to Miami where it will sail a different kind of Caribbean itinerary.

Although disappointing, passengers booked on the canceled sailings were notified more than a year in advance, and have the option to move to a Southern Caribbean sailing from San Juan on the other Prima-class cruise ship. That ship's itineraries don't include calls at Aruba and Curaçao though.

Doug Parker shared more details on Norwegian's canceled cruises from San Juan, and more cruise news, on the June 2 edition of Cruise News Today.

The cruise line says the cancellations are due to port availability issues and that the ship will be redeployed to Miami, where it'll operate shorter Bahamas cruises that'll include visits to its private island, Great Stirrup Cay.

Passengers still interested in sailing from San Juan are being directed to similar Southern Caribbean itineraries aboard Norwegian Prima, which will continue to operate from San Juan.

Carnival Cruise Line completes major upgrades at Half Moon Cay

And Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled the largest upgrades in Half Moon Cay's nearly 30-year history.

The enhancements include a new pier that allows Carnival's largest Excel-class ships, including the Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee, to visit the destination without relying on tender boats. Guests will also find new dining venues, bars, expanded beach amenities, a tram system, and upgraded walking paths throughout the island.

Carnival Sunrise, the ship we're on right now, became the first ship to visit the destination yesterday.

Virgin Voyages enhances Valiant Lady cruise ship

And Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady has returned to service following a recent dry dock that brought a slew of upgrades across the adults-only cruise ship.

Now, one of the biggest additions is a new Indian restaurant that's replacing the former Razzle Dazzle concept. Other upgrades include a redesigned nightclub, expanded outdoor seating, improvements to onboard entertainment venues, and new retail offerings.

Virgin says the refresh also includes more than 20 new entertainment experiences as the cruise line continues to refine the guest experience across its fleet.
