The Carnival cruise trick to free room service breakfast ordering ease
Mornings on a Carnival cruise ship don't have to begin with a hunt for a table in a crowded buffet on the Lido deck at 8 a.m.
After spending many mornings waiting in buffet lines on cruise ships in my 20 years of cruising, I find myself increasingly eager to avoid the breakfast buffet during my vacations. These days, you'll find me trying to convince my kids to join me for a leisurely sit-down breakfast in the main dining room to start sea days on a more relaxing note.
But opting for a slower breakfast in the main dining room isn't the only option for cruisers who want to avoid the often-chaotic breakfast buffet. If you plan ahead, you can order a continental breakfast delivered to your room for free (just remember to tip).
Room service breakfast is ideal for port days when you have an early meeting time for a shore excursion or want to wake up slowly and relax on your balcony with coffee and pastries.
Here's what to know about ordering free room service breakfast on a Carnival cruise ship, what's on the menu, and a hack that seasoned cruisers use to add even more ease to their vacation mornings.

How to order free room service breakfast on a Carnival cruise
Traditionally, cruise lines used a paper door hanger system for room service breakfast orders where passengers filled out their order and then placed the hanger outside their door the night before. Carnival Cruise Line did away with breakfast order door hangers years ago, but that doesn't mean ships no longer offer the service.
Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald reminded his 676,000 followers of this in a July 14 Facebook post after receiving a message from a passenger named Louise who said she missed the option to order breakfast via the room service door hangers.
"I answered her with what system had replaced that and she replied that she had no idea this was possible. And so, I thought I would share this information again with you all," Heald told his followers.

The brand ambassador explained that room service breakfast is complimentary and available between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on all ships, except those sailing from Australia. Passengers are still required to order it the night before though.
"You can call 8000 the night before to order and set your time for it to be delivered. Just tell the lovely room service operator what you wish to be served from the breakfast room service menu and the time you wish it to be delivered the following morning," Heald explained.
What's on Carnival's free room service breakfast menu?
Although you can't get a complimentary hot breakfast from room service like you can in the buffet or main dining room, Carnival's free room service breakfast offers a selection of continental items.
Carnival's complimentary room service breakfast menu includes:
- Fruit: banana, melon
- Cereal: Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, Corn Flakes, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cheerios
- Pastries: Danish, white toast, wheat toast, muffin, croissant, bagel, gluten-free toast
- Yogurt: banana, strawberry, raspberry, plain
- Juices: orange, apple, tomato, grapefruit
- Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate
- Milk: 2%, skim, chocolate
- Condiments: sugar, brown sugar, lemon, honey, sugar substitutes, half & half, cream cheese, butter, margarine, grape jelly, orange marmalade, strawberry jelly, peanut butter
Breakfast sandwiches are also available for a delivery charge of $5-6.
There's a hack for making room service breakfast ordering effortless
In the comments on Heald's post, a few veteran Carnival cruisers shared a room service breakfast trick that ensures your breakfast is always delivered, even if you forgot to call to order it the night before.
"We call room service and let them know that we want the same order, delivered each day at 6 a.m. for the duration of the cruise," Julie Cole shared. "I think a lot of people don't know you can ‘set your order' to be delivered each day so you don't need to call every evening."
If you're not a fan of eating in your cabin, set up a standing coffee delivery instead - perfect for sipping on the balcony before heading to breakfast.

"I call the first night on board for a standing order every morning for coffee and hot tea to be delivered at 6 a.m. I enjoy coffee on the balcony until my travel companion wakes up and then she joins me with her cup of hot tea. Then we go to the main dining room for a hot breakfast. And yes, we keep tons of ones to tip the room service attendant," Tami Holliday commented.
As Holliday reminded, tipping the crew member who delivers your room service is always encouraged, no matter what you order.
If you've sailed Carnival and skipped room service breakfast because you assumed there was a cost, this is your sign to reconsider. It's a small thing, but sometimes the small things like a quiet cup of coffee on a cruise ship balcony make vacation days that much more restorative.
