Drop off your electronics and hazardous waste tomorrow
The Columbus city government is collecting hazardous waste from Muscogee County residents Saturday, Oct. 3. Anyone with harmful household byproducts or electronics can bring them to the Old Recycling Warehouse at #25 22nd Avenue (directly across from Dolly Madison on Victory Drive). It runs from 9-1 p.m.
Materials being collected include:
Paint and solvents- latex paint, oil-based paint, furniture strippers and paint thinners.
Lawn care chemicals- fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.
Cleaning products- anything containing bleach or ammonia, all-purpose cleaners, furniture polish, spot removers, scouring powder, oven cleaner, bathroom cleaners and bug spray.
Automotive products- motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, anti-freeze, lubricants, car batteries, brake fluid, transmission fluid, car was and metal polish.
Electronics- computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, consumer electronics, but not televisions.
The project will also collect shoes for the Shoe Recycling Campaign to reuse shoes by sending them to people in need in developing countries. They accept shoes from in all size, colors and conditions.
Anyone who'd like to get rid of personal documents can give them to River Mill Data Management LLC. They accept tax returns, bank statements, canceled checks (statute of limitation of 3 years), paycheck stubs older than three months, ATM receipts, credit card statements, utility bills and other receipts more than a year old.
