Mystery solved.

The orange bikes that are on the side of the road in the Columbus area are a clever marketing strategy by a new fitness center planning to open a location in The Landings Shopping Center.

Orangetheory Fitness, offers 60-minute workout sessions split into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training, is preparing to open Nov. 15.

“That’s us,” Orangetheory Regional Manager Mia Duvall said Thursday when asked about the bikes that are showing up across the city. The company has put it between 20 and 25 bikes at various locations.

“We want people to ask about them and do a little investigation,” Duvall said.

The bikes are appearing as the company has begun preselling memberships locally. This will be the fourth one in Georgia. There is currently one in Peachtree City and two in Atlanta. One recently opened in Auburn, Ala., and there are about 500 worldwide.

Orangetheory is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
