Old Town, the mixed-use development on the north side of Columbus, has received a major feather in its hat.

The 300-acre property at 8201 Veterans Parkway — which features a blend of custom homes, apartments, retail and office space — has been chosen the 2016 Community of the Year by Southern Living Inspired Communities.

“Old Town portrays the authentic Southern Living lifestyle and has been an exemplary partner in the program for the past three years. Old Town has grown from a group of individuals with an idea to a community of creatives,” Kathryn Lott, assistant marketing manager with Birmingham, Ala.-based Southern Living, said in a statement Monday.

There are currently 17 Southern Living Inspired Communities across the Southeast. They draw on the nearly half-century-old magazine’s flavor for Southern neighborhoods that are located amid natural landscape and foster a walkable environment that encourages those living, working and playing there to gather and interact. Southern Living is well known for its magazines featuring a variety of home plans.

A charter member of the organization, Old Town is located near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Williams Road.
