Locos Pub & Grill in midtown Columbus closes on short notice
A midtown restaurant that has been in operation since 2006 closed unexpectedly over the weekend, said the developer who owns the building.
Locos Grill & Pub in The Village on 13th Street closed Saturday night, said Will Burgin. The owner, Nick Davis of Auburn, Ala., approached Burgin last week and indicated he was about to shut down the restaurant.
“It is the end of their financial reporting period and he told me it wasn’t in their best interest to continue to operate,” Burgin said.
They negotiated a buyout of the remaining few months on the lease that included leaving the equipment and furnishings in the building, Burgin said.
Locos Grill & Pub in Auburn, also owned by Davis, closed last year. The casual dining restaurant served wings, burgers and sandwiches. Burgin owned and operated the restaurant from 2008 until 2014 when he sold it to Davis.
“We knew that it wasn’t doing what it needed to do,” Burgin said.
Burgin has now turned his attention to finding another tenant for the nearly 5,000 square feet space. There are two other restaurants, Wicked Hen and Midtown Coffee House, in the string of shops along 13th Street just west of Lakebottom Park.
“It’s good space,” Burgin said. “Wicked Hen and the Coffee House are doing a strong business.”
Burgin plans to show the space to at least one potential tenant in the next week, he said.
